TO THE EDITOR OF "THE PEESS." Sir, —The lucerne question is interest-, i ing and I hope will be profitable, but think the poor beasts might like a change of diet at times. A suggestion, comes-for a variation in the menu for tattle, pigs and.poultry. It is growing slabs of Burbanks'spineless cactus which has immense potential values and cattle switched off from mungolds, carrots, Kwcdes, etc; to cactus have given excellent results for slaughter cattle or lor pedigree, and show iminials. The cactus , (apart from protein fats, carbohydrates) contains organic salts for'want of which many animals are partially starved. Those salts act well in stomach troubles, regulating the bowels and purifying the svsteins. It is easily grown, ; cheaper thaii any other forage crop. It is perennial, withstands drought, is a means pi preventing soil erosion, grows on land valueless to other crops, and is a natural silage, no silo being requiredThe South African "Journal of Agriculture'' for last July supplies further paretc., AGRICOLA.
