To the.now numerous Australian war memorial schemes has been added a. plan by Councillor A. V. Bendwden, of Prahran, Melbourne, for. the construc-tion-of an "Anzae Highway." linking up the five mainland capital cities ot v Australia from Perth to Brisbane. Councillor Renowden will seek to initiate a 'movement whidh he hopeb will eventually secure the co-operation or tho Federal Government, the forthcoming Premiers' Conferenoe, the State Parliaments, th.9 Returned Soldiers' League in all its branches, and other* bodies interested in returned soldiers. Councillor Renowden states that the "Ansae Highway'' would be eo devised that undei' his proposals memorial arches and monuments could be erected at various points of a great and noble tree-lined road stretching across tha continent. Every tree or stretch of trees would commemorate Australian sailors, soldiers, and nurses who served in the Great War. The financing ot 'the scheme rests upon the public and State grants. It is urged on behalf of tlhe project that it would provide a national highway for defence purposes, open up mush new country, and in relation to its construction and maintenance give employment to many returned soldiers.
