YOUNG CITIZENS' LEAGUE.

CANTERBURY COUNCIL. A meeting of the Advisory Council of the Canterbury branch of the New Zealand Young Citizens' League was held yesterday afternoon, Mr C. E. licvanBrown presiding. On the niotion of Mr G. T. Booth, Mr C. E. Bevan-Brown, president cf the branch, was elected preaident of the, Council. . Mr Bevan-Brown stated that Bngn-dier-General Andrew, representing thq Boy Scouts, had signified his willingness to bo added to the Council. General Andrew was added to tho Council, as wore Professor Shelley, representing education; Mr L. M. lsitt, representing members of Parliament; Mr C. Renn, representing various unions; Mr N. li Proctor and Mr A. Richards, representing the Returned Soldiers' Association : Miss Chaplin, representing the lady teachers ; Mr B. Penlington, representing the assistant teachers; Miss Law, representing the Y.W.C.A.; Sister Edith, representing the Society for the Protection of Women and Children ; and Air R. A. Kenner (Y.MjC.A), Miss Cracroft Wilson, the Rev. P. Carrington, Messrs T. Haslett, A. C. Maxwell, and W. J. Sim. Mr C. D. Hardie was appointed organising secretary of (he local League, but as it was not practicable for him to take up his duties until the end of January. Mr W. T. Charlervood agreed l to do all he oould in that capacity in the meantime. Messrs G. T. Booth, A. F. Carey, J. A- Flesher, H. Holland, A. and W. T. Charlewood were appointed a finance committee. It was decided to ask the lady members of the Council to form a ladies' branch, with Mrs C. Chilton as convener.

Mr J. E. Purchase said tbnt the| school teachers of Canterbury would be\ only too glad to give evory assistance to such a fine and necessary movement. Messrs E. C. Cutten, SJVL, and H. Stubbing,' members of the Auckland delegation which lias been organising branches of the League throughout New Zealand, were present at the meeting, and gave tho Council helpful advice.
