centre. The Canterbury Centre of the New Zealand Swimming Association met last night, Mr H. Williams presiding. The New Zealand Council wrote asking the views of the Centre in regard to the application on behalf of the Ashburton and Rakaia Amateur Swimming Cluba for the recognition of it Centre at Ashburton. . It was decided that the Centre would oppose any application for a Centre between Chnstchurch and Timaru. The programme for. the East Christ church ChzVs carnival, to be held on December 14th, was approved. * It was decided to start the senior water polo competition on December 14tli, and the junior competition as soon as the senior was finished. j It was resolved that all clubs must fully desoribe novelty events when sending in applications for swimming carnivals. It was agreed'to hold a carnival in December, when a number of provincial championships will be competed for, and another in January, when the Canterbury trials will bs swum. A committee, consisting of the executive and of four delegates, .was appointed to settle the details of the carnivals. Mr A. R. Brunsd'en was appointed handicapper to the Centre, aud iir W. Johnson, who resigned, was accorded ft vote of thanks far hiß paat services-
