The annual report of "Lloyd's Register" shoivs that the new tonnage classed by the Society during the year ended at June 20th decreased by 25 per cent compared with 1919-20. There had been such extensive reductions in the plans submitted to the Society in recent months <ts to indicate an unprecedented slump in new tonnage. Of the new ships 58 per cent, were fitted for oil burning. For the first time in the Society's history more oil-burning than coal-burning Eiliips had been built.
