PICTURE THEATRES.
CITY COUNCIL CETTICISMS ANSWERED. In connexion with the discussion which took' place in the Oity Council on Monday concerning children in picture theatres, we have received a communication signed by the managers of the various theatres, Messrs H. Waters (Evervbody's), "W. Jaggar (Queen's), A. Rowley (Strand); Harold Rig)hton, (Liberty and Empire), E. J. Pegg Grand), V. M. Beebe (Crystal Palace), and A. W. Lane (Lyttelton Pictures and Kaiapoi). They write aa follows : "Wo, the undersigned picture theatre managers, with experience extending over many years, desire to state that it is evident from the tone of the discussion that the Councillors have only a very limited knowledge of conditions in the theatres of tlhis city. "One would be led to believe from their remarks that these cases, are of frequent occurrence, but these are the facts:—During the last nine years in Christohurdh only one case (the recent one) has been proved to have happened, and two only have been reported to j tho managers. { "When one considers that during the! last nine years over 12 million people have passed through the Christchurch theatres, one can realise that the picture theatre Ims been exceptionally free from anything of tho nature."
