SECONDARY SCHOOLS' CHAMPIONSHIPS.

R. Brunsden.H. D. Johnston, a W. G. Ate/*, T. E. Bobeon,-W. ,T.'Mbyle .(Christchurch. Sports Club), and Dr.'.Hansen i- and Mr C. J. Golds tone (Christchurch Teohl» nical High School), Mr J. Mr Baybutt stated that, at a meeting of * headmasters of eecondary' schools -recently * held, it was suggested ■ that a schools boxing * tournament 6houTd be ield towards, the end °: of the year. It wis desired that no trophies o should be presented. ' The schools that would & be represented at the' competition were the P Boys' High School," Chiist's College, St. & Bede's College, and St Andrew'e'Cpllege. ; e Dr. Hansen saicV that the Technical High 6 School ,Jiad quite a strong team, .which they 't were prepared to enter lor such a competia tion. School Boxing .Championships. ■ ■' Mr Moyle congratulated the secondary schools' representatives on the step they had take«,' and trusted that the forthcoming- competition would-only,be the foreiunner of many others.* • •• • /- , • Dr. Hansen. said that the , thanks of the secondary schools' representatives were due . to the Christchurch Sports Club for tjheir assistance. ' i The meeting-then concluded, the members of the committee which, had just been,set up remaining to discus" details. , .It was decided that the competitions ehould be held either on November 9th or 16th, subject ,to those -dates being satisfactory.; ■ The. weights were fixed as follows:—Flyweight, 6st 101b; bantams, 7st 10lb; featherweight, Sst lolb; . li^ht-weight, ,9st 10lb; middle-weight, 10st 101b; heavy, wcieht, any weight above 10st 101b. Each school is. to bo allowed to nominate one competitor for cacn event. Bouts are to be drawn on the Monday preceding the competitions. Th> round* were fixed at two two-minute rounds, and the finals at three two-minute round's, eightounoe gleves to bo used. • It wis drcided to supply a set of the New Zealand Boxing Councils Officiate• were elected, as follows Mr T. E. Hobson; judges, Major.Bow and Mr C. T. Aschman; timekeepers, MesiTa E. Bennett and \V. Drake; annjurio.r, Mr J. D. Baybutt. ' The appointment of four official . seconds was left to the Christchurch Sports Club. [We understand that, at the headranters' meeting referred to no decision was arrived ■ at as to the desirability of a secondary , schools boxing competition being held-, and I that in consequence the arrangements made at the abovfl meeting may not commend themselves to some of the schools concerned.] McCLEAEY TO MEET CADMA2T. The Westport Boxine Association has successfully negotiated with Laurie Cadman and Brian McCleaty to box at Christina time for the biggest purse ever offered by the local Association. The contestants are to weijn ilst Blb. (2lb ever the middle-weight limit). This will be McCleary's debut in tho professional arena, and his showing over 15 rounds against such a tried exponent as Cadman will be eagerly awaited by bi3 admirers. He enters tho professional list with the highest credentials, - perhaps the beet of any amateur in the Dominion taking a similar step, and though, he har not yet gone past the six-round limit, his wonderful physique should certainly make this possible with more rigorous training Cadman, who suffered defeat at the hands of J. Hceney a fortnight ago in a contest for the middle-weight championship of the Dominion, is a hard-hitting youngster and possessed of no mean degree of skill. ; AN UNSATISFACTORY CONTEST.
