FINAL MEETING OF COUNCIL. . .The final meeting of the Woolstpn Borohjgh Council, prior* io the amalgamation of the borough with the city, was hold last evening. . f reseat: Tho Mayor (Mr McGregor Wright), Crs. The Finance Committee recommended that a further grant of £25 be made tothe. library.- The recommendation wop adopted. 1 On the recommendation of the Electricity Committee; it was decided to write to the teachers of tho Woolston, .Opawa and Bromley schools, asking that the children be warned' or' tho serious consequences of breaking street lamps. A 'etter was received from the Department of Internal Affairs, stating that the request for.consent to the borrowing of £SOUO had been referred to the secretary of the Treasury. I Tha manager of the tramways wroto I stating that the subsidence of the road i alongside newly laid down rails had been noted and would receive attention in due course.
The Hon. D H. Guthrie, Acting-Min-I ister of Railways, wrote in reply to the Council's proposal, that a subway should be oonf.truct<4d under tho railway to connect Opawa and Woolston, stating that the matter had been tho subject of cnf[uiry, and it had been found that the cost of a subway, with suitable approaches, would bo about £I2OO. In addition to this, pumping would be necessary to keep tiro subway dry. If euchaa 'access were" desired, it would require to bo furnisned at the cost of the local bodies interested. It could not be uu- ; dertaken by the Department. The letter wap received auij referred to the City Council Several councillors referred to the overgrowth of grass in the park, and it was decided to instruct the foreman to have the work attended to immediately. Cr. Owen said the fact that there waß I only £8 outstanding in rates, reflected ' great credit on the Town Clerk (Mr O. i Machattie) and on his motion a resolution of appreciation of the Town Clerk's services was passed. The Mayor, and Ctb. W. J. Knighton, W. McCouuell, D. Mcßae, and G. T. Owen were appoonted to the Library Committee. The Mayor was appointed- official representative to look after the borough's interests until the City Council staff took over tho whole of the administration. ■ . , ~ Mr J. J. Graham, chairman of the Woolston Fire Board waited upon the Council with a proposal in regard to the representation of the district on tho Christchurch Fire Board. ( The matter was discussed m committee and it was subsequently reported to open council that the following resolution had been adopted:—"That the j Council unanimously supports the proposal that m consideration of the special circumstances arising out of.the amalgamation of the Woolston Borough Council with the Christchurch City Council, that the inhabitants within tho present boundary of Woolston be granted special representation on the Christchurch Fire Board, and that the Wool-
ston Fire Board be asked to support and forward tho resolution to tho proper quarters."
