After giving the representatives' report careful consideration, the .committee recommended tlhnt tho work of the under-structuro of the bridge be fully set out in the plans and specifications, for which tenderers would be required to give a separate Tho committee also recommoiiuxl that tho carrying out of the whole work) be entrusted to Messns Ptouse and Gummer, the winners of the coiripetiThe committee further recommended that the War Memorial Executive be informed that the plans and specifications of the under-Btructure must be submitted to the Council and approved bofore tenders were called far the work, and that only New Zealand stone was to bo used m the erection of ww bridge. , Some objection was takeh to the proposal that the erection of Me uniwfetructure should be'carried out by we Memorial Committee mchiteets, nnjd Cr. R. D. Martin moved that the portion of the work for which tho Council) was responsible should be carried out under the supervision of Khe city engineer.

This was seconded by Cr. Cooke. Cr. W. H. Winsor said it was customary to allow tho one architect to supervise the whole jobOr. A. Manhiro said it would only lead to trouble by having two sets of people supervising the work. 1 The Deputy-Mayor said the architect's chargo for supervising the building of the under-structure would bo 61 per cent, on the coßt. Cr. Winsor said the architect would have to be paid 4 per cenf. in nay event. The Council agreed to allow tho clause to stand over till next meeting.
