The death of (Mr James Little remores one "who has occupied a distinctive position in the sheep-breeding history of the Dominion. No other colonial has achieved the evolution, of a , distinct type of sheep by crossbreeding, a type which, in spite of much natural conservatism and scepticism, is to-day recognised throughout the sheep breeding world as an established breed. It took many years of careful breeding and selection for Mr Little to produce his Corriedale. Success was hard to attain, and it. must have been a source of gratification and pride to the originator

to realise in the evening of his life the wide vogue established by the new breed. English stock writers frequently remark, with a good deal of excusable pride, that spite of American sheep-breeding for a century and more, no distinctive American breed has been evolved. The American breeder has to rely on the foundation breeds of the Old Country. The production of the Corriedale removes the Dominion irom the scope of such a comment. The Corriedale is now accepted in all importing countries a3 a breed that fulfils a well-defined place. Any proof required in that respect can be furnished from the record of exportations during the past few years to North and South America and to Australia. The progross of the Corriedale breed will continue, no doubt, long after its originator ,'s forgotten, and it is fitting, therefore, to record here his invaluable work in the 6tock husbandry of the country.
