The revenue for the last two months was £875, with a. maximum demand of 52 kilowatts. Twenty street lamps had been replaced. The Works Committee reported that approximately £6 chains of kerb and channel had been completed on Riccarton road, and 50 chains of the old kerb and channel had been taken out. The roadway was being formed and regraded as circumstances allowed. It was hoped that the whole of the work would be completed by Carnival Week. Rubbish was now being tipped in the new pit pt Middleton. The District Health Officer (Dr. T. F. Telford) wrote cancelling certain demands which had been made by him in regard to the Adrlington Saleyarde. Cr. H. W. Wise said that Dr. Telford was continually sending in demands for work- to be carried out. Every- member knew the saleyards were kept aa clean as possible, but when Dr. Telford demanded certain thing* to be done, the town clerk refused the saleyxrds their license until they should be completed. Then Dr. Telford overrode the Council and cancelled his demands. Dr. Telford 1 should read his letters before he put his signature to them. He proposed that "The Council protests against Dr. Telford sending demands and then overriding the decisions of the Council afterwards. Cr. Steere said the District Health Officer was probably a hard-worked man. He would support the motion, however. Finally it was decided that the following should be sent to the Health Office:—"That this Council protests against the District I Health Officer (Dt. T. F. Telford) demanding certain works to be carried out and then I afterwards cancelling them." A resolution of appreciation of the work | done by Mjessrs J. si. Chisholm and W. S. Fleming in planting trees in HaTakeke and Straven streets, was passed.
