SCULLING.
HANNAN v. WELLS. The oculling iocs for the professional championship of Marlborough has been arranged to take place, on tho Wairau Kiver on "Labour Day (October 24th). The contestants are "Paddy" Hannan (who was defeated by Arnst over the same course a few months ago/ and F. ("Jumbo") Welle, & younger aspirant for sculling honours. Wells was very well known in the professional cycling world- in New Zealand prior to the war. Ho holds the 15-mile record, and has won all the New Zealand championships at different times. He has also ridden professionally in America. He has only been . row-. iug for about eighteen months. He had a year on the Parramatta, under Kemp, and uses a ' Kemp-built shell. Hannan says that Wells has a magnificent physique, and is shaping well at has work. He anticipates that the race will be a good ons, whoever wins.
