In regard to unemployment, it is understood'tliat-the Government is cona big scheme of emigration for oversea settlement within the Empire, probably; involving a', grant to assist it, but with the Dominions' Governments .will, be necessary. • LONDON,. October 13. • A total of 108,364 ex-Service men's applications for free passage have been Yeceived by the Overseas Settlement "Committee, representing' over 200,000 individuals. Although the applications close on December 31st, it is anticipated that more will 'be despatched text year than this. The "applications of ' ax-Servioe men approved since April total 12,400, including Canada 5035, Australia 4822, New, Zealand 1081, South Africa' 992. The Child Emigration- Society is sending a contingent of hoys and girls to West Australia in February. AUSTRALIAN LABGUB'S WAY. ; (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) (Received October 14th, 11.35 p.m.) BRISBANE, October 14. The Labour Conference carried a motion, .pledging members individually and collectively to refuse to participate in any war outside the Commonwealth. It was also decided to oppose all forms of assisted immigration, and to urge that no Government shall arrange for immigrants without the approval of organised Labour.
