FRENCH WARSHIP AT AKAROA.
(SPECIAL TO "THE'FEK3S.") AELABOA, October 14. ; Tbo French sloopof war, Aldebaran, arrived in.' Akaxoa. Harjiour at 12.30 p-pi. yesterday, and anchored off tho m&in wharf. The Mayor (Mr George Armstrong) and town clerk (Mr Q. W. Thomas), accompanied', by two old French settlers, Messrs E. X. LeLievre and Lucien Brochene, paid an official visit, which was returned later by Commander M. de Solminihao. The ship remains till to-morrow afternoon. This morning the Commander - motors to the city to call on the French Con- ; sul, and then on the municipal authorities. j j i. A public reception was tendered >.o the officers and creW in the Oddfellows :• HsU last night, followed by a dance.
