BANGIOBA. The sixty-first anniversary of the Loyal Itangiora Lodge of Oddfellows was celebrated on. Thursday evening with a social gathering, winch was well attended. Dancing and a Progressive euchre match formed the main part of the programme, and vocal solos were given by Mrs E. Trollope and Miss A. Bailey. The winners ot the euchre match were: Mrs J. A. Miles and Mr John Loffhagon the consolation prizes going to Mr and Mrs A. Taylor. FBEBBLETON. ■ The Tennis Club's opening, postponed from last Saturday, will take place to-day. , This evening a combined meeting ot the Brass Baud Committee and the ladies of the district will be.held,.to make arrangements for the holding or a bazaar early next year, to provide the band with very necessary new instruments. KAIAPOL At the final winter social of the St. Andrew's- Caledonian Society, held last evening, the president, Mr E. B. Simp'son, on behalf of the directors, presented Mr H. A. Cooper, past president and director of the Society, with a Kaiapoi rug. SEDGEMEBE. The annual meeting- of Sedgemere residents for the election of a Management Committee for the Public Hall, was held on Thursday night, Mr J. T. Parkin presiding. The balance-sheet showed a credit of £8 2s 2d, and there were no liabilities. The old committee was re-elected, the members being Messrs J. T. Parkin, Alex. McLaughlin, I. McGill, <G. Hannaford, R. L. Cant, J. V. Leahy, and C. I>. Brown. Mr Parkin was re-elected chairman, and Mr Cant secretary. It was agreed that Mr Leahy should endeavour to form a Social Committee, of young people, to run a series of socials in aid of the hall funds. „ SOUTffBBIDaE. Mr J. T. Parkin, presided over a well-attended meeting of the Southbridge Athletic Sports Club. Mr F. P. Sivertsen wrote withdrawing his offer to give £1 Is for the right to sell Boft drinks, fruit, and confectionery at the sporta on Labour Day. The club decided to run a stall in conjunction with the refreshment booth. The matter of arranging for a supply of refreshments for sports day, and for the dance at night, was left in the secretary's hands. It was reported that Withers's orchestra had been engaged for the dance on sports night. Sixty-six new members were elected. It was decided to complain to the Athletic and Cycling Union concerning the handicaps for the 30-mile road race held by the club last Saturday. AKABOA. . The. members of the Domain Tennis Club opened the season on Thursday afternoon, under ideal conditions. The Mayor (Mr Geo. Armstrong) congratulated the members on the outcome of lost season's efforts, and wishing them another successful year. He then formally declared the courts open for f>lay. Afternoon tea Was served by the ady members.

Mr Gilbert Hasell, clerk in tho local Bank of New Zealand, has received notice of his transfer to TVaimate. He leaves Akaroa next week. Another departure is that of Mr W. MoLachlin,' telegraph linesman, who lias been promoted to foreman, and shifted to Christchurch. Mr McLachlin leaves at the week-end. ASHBURTON. A further 24 points of rain were registered at Ashburton at 9 a.m. yesterday, and there were heavy showers during the afternoon. Rain lias now fallen on 13 nights and dnvs this month. There was a very large gathering of the parishioners of tho Church of the Holy Name, in the Ashburton Orange Hall, on Thursday night, to bid farewell and make a presentation to SeniorSergeant Ryan and Mrs Ryan, who reoentlv went to reside at Riocarton. Tho Very Rev. Dean O'Donnell made the presentation, which consisted of a Russian leather wallet, containing a bulky roll of bank-notes.
