The Association claimed protection from the _ risk attendant upon the importation of trees and plants which could be grown ui the Dominion in any quantity. ■ Lnfortunately, an agitation, was. being aiaintained by those interested in the sale or. imported trees on commission. llie embargo on importation was imposed by the Minister of Agriculture, in the hrst place, without reference to the nurserymen, -who never' asked for*t. In conclusion. t"he letter states thatthe nursery industry employs about 2000 hands, most of them being married men, and everv tree imported would lessen employment in New Zealand.
