AN,INDIGNATION MEETING.
An indignation meeting of ratepayers of Kinloch riding of Wairewa; County, was held at Mr" Glynail's woolshed on Friday... Mr yo'ted I t<| the'chair,' and"-Mr-G; E. Murray was-ap* pointed secretary'. '. ... It was resolved•;;"That tfiis'meeting' has been called to protest against the increased: 1-atV on Kinloch ' riding ..over the rates struck in Little River and Kaituna ridings, and other matters;'" Mr E. G. beed moved, and Mr? A. J. Wright seconded: "That a deputation of six ""be asked to wait on -the Council to present; the requests of this meeting.' v The motion was carried unanimously, and the folio wing : gentlemen were appointed to form the deputation :- Messrs-T. White, sen., E. G. Seed, J>. Barwick, R. Studholme,. D. Richards and J. Allen ; m Mr D. Barwick moved, and Mr. T. E. Feather seconded: "That the Wairewa County Council be asked to furnish a detailed account for the-last four years of all moneys ; ,received" by the Council on behalf of the Kinloch riding and also expenditure during-that period-" '". ".-,.'■" • ', The motion was earned unanimously. Air T White, junr., moved, and Mr if J Wright seconded: "That this meeting is dissatisfied -with the supervison." ~.'... ,_ The motion was carried unanimously. It was resolved, on the motion oLthe secretary, seconded by Mr R.- Studholme: "That in the event of ;the deputation getting no redress this deputation asks the Wairewa County Council to furnish them with the monetary position of the present plant, buildings Jfnd reserves to be put before another meeting to be held in the near future.
A voung man named Abraham Habersladt, described as an American, citizen, was charged at Thames Police Court, London, with landing in England without permission. Police-constable \ylett, enquiry officer,, said that prisoner arrived at Liverpool in the. Celtic in which ship he was employed as assistant butcher or baker ' He was refused permission to. 'land; by, %n e Immigration Officer, but deserted the ship the same evening. One night ho was fighting at the King, Blackfriars road, and after the fight he wa« arrested. • The officer added: •'We allowed him to have the fight, thinking that, perhaps he would win, and, if so, have sufficient money to pay his passage Back, but he was knocked out in the 13th round. The Magistrate recommended the prisoner for deportation.
