annual competitions. The annual competitions of the Canterbury Caledonian Society were commenced in St. Michael's Schoolroom last evening, and will be continued this afternoon and evening. There are 150 entries in tho various classes, constituting a record for the competitions since they were inaugurated four years ago. The judges ar-o Messrs A. Blunt (dancing), J. Allan (piping), H. Malcolm (singing and recitations). Tho following arc the results of last night's competitions: Highland Fling, open, under 17 years— Violet Robertson 1, Doris Bell 2. Seann Triubhau, 1921 pupils, under 11 years—Jean Shafpe 1, Marjorie Sey 2. Sword Dance, 1921 pupils—Vera Pocock 1, Mary Shirley 2. Highland Rjel, open, under 17 years— Jean Irvine 1, Emily Turner 2.
