N.Z. CHAMPIONSHIP MEETING.

The New Zealand golf championship meeting » to be held this year on the Shirley links, Under the management of the Christchurch Golf Club, and will open on October 17th and finish on October 22nd. The programme of event* is a* follow*:—Amateur championship of New Zealand (preient holder, 6. Morpeth), open championship of New Zealand (present holder, J. H. Kirkwood), professional match, bogey handicap, four-ball bogey handicap, inter-club challenge vase, presented by the late Mr B. D. O'Rorke (present holders, Auckland Golf Club), and stroke bandicap. The first and second rounds of Iho open championship will be flayed on the opening day of the meeting. Entries will be accepted only through secretaries of clubs, who are to furnish each'competitor's club handicap. Under the rules Of the New Zealand Golf Counoil, the number of amateur competitors may be retrioted to seventy-two, and, if found necessary, the Christchurch Golf Club will so restrict, and will return the entrance fees of those whose entries ore refused. Those -with the lowest handicap will have preference, and last places, if necessary, will be drawn by lot. The new rules as to size and weight of golf balis, out of bounds, etc, ..which come into force this year, will be Btrictly adhered to. Entries for all events close on October sth. AVONDALE CLTJB. On the Avondale liiiks to-day, the first round of k, 36-hole medal handicap for the Tiedall Cleek will be played. Post entries will be accepted.
