After the conclusion of the ArMistice, the Dutch Government offered the French Government tbenecessary materials for the construction of more than 500 houses, paying all transport and providing Dutch architects and builders to direct the work of construction. The French Government at once accepted this offer, and now whit ' is known as the "Dutch City" has been completed on the Lille road at Lens. Each house i is surrounded by a little garden, arid ; schools, an hotel, public haths, and shops have been constructed. Not onlj 1 are the brightly-painted houses all finished, but they are already inhabited by some 2000 people; the shops are well ! stocked, the children are attending the three schools, workers passing through 'tho cityvare received, at thfe hotel and the public hall is often the ' scene of cheery gatherings. • At liievin, neflr Lens, a second and smaller' Dutch city is in coilree of construction.
