RETRENCHMENT IN PUBLIC SERVICE.

A.S.R.S. ATTITUDE,

(PBESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON, August 9,

It was stated to a "New Zealand Times" reporter to-day that the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants is strongly urging that all public servants who are eligible to retire after over forty years' service should be retired. The question of retrenchment in. the public service was discussed at various branch meetings, and the opinion expressed that before anything else was done in that direction, men of over forty years- service, who were entitled to retire, should be called upon to do so. A strong protest was made against the dismissal of men not entitled to pensions, as long as those over the age of retirement were retained.
