* —. MONTHLY MEETING. Tho monthly meeting of the Selwyn Plantations Board was held yesterday. Present— Messrs G. H. Billiard, Commissioner of Crown .Lands (chairman), G. Witty, M.P., S. A. Staples, J. iStorrie-, R. Nairn, T/. T. Popple, G. Hall, G. Scott, O. and G. H. Bedford. Tho [Superintendent's 1 report stated that satisfactory progress had been made with tree-planting' at tho. Banksido Station, 55,000 pinus insignii Shoving been planted by day labour. Tho recent "weather had, however, not been conducive, to iho best results. The whole of the planting at Banksido would be completed by tho end of the month. Sixty chain.9 of wire netting had been erected and a ]>ack of- dogs 113601 to get tho enclosure free of rabbits. Five thousand pinus inBigmii had been raik.U to the Papanui County Council, and 200 pines delivered to the Selwyn County Council. In fuLfilmerPt of an order from tho 'Springston County Council, 5000 trees had keen, lifted. All lifting and transportation work was being burred on to permit of the eariy transportation of COO.OOO s«e<iUillgs. Two [hundred ctncl corcls of wood had been railed during tho month. In order to expedite drying, 12,0 cords of gum nnd pinewoovl ■were sawn into 8-inek blocks, and would be disposed of a» orders demanded, 480 cords of 4ft -wood in addition be:ng stacked at Bankside and Bar-field. The services of thei woodcutters had been-dispensed with temporarily, but where possible these men would be employed tree-planting. Tho gravel pits at Darileldl and Racecourse Hill liaj. heen put into a satisfactory stato for £3 S.«. Cither neglected pits would be similarly dealt -with. The report was adopted. » Tho Director of State Forestry wrote congratulating the Board, ora tho satisfactory manner in which, it was carrying out its work. • The Commissioner of Crown Lands wrote authorising th» Superintendent to supply 200 pinus insignii to tho Selwyro County Council. It was decided to give the Firewood Committee tho power to uso its discretion in the matter of sailing wood, according to the state of' the market. _ The secretory ivae instructed! to notify local bodies that they must give the Superintendent advice if they requited mora than 1000 trees. ■:.'''.
