Winter Mfletmg. Tho last has been seen of Royal Irislb. on the racecourse (writes Whalebone in the "Auckland Star"), J. Williamson having made a present of the hardy son of Soult to a friend in the Pa tea district, and in future the gelding will do duty as a lady's hack. Royal Irish was a great performer on ; ,he turf, his winnings amounting to over £5000,. and at the home he is going to he will receive all the consideration in fcis old days that he deserves. The jockey F. J. Daniels, who was injured when Coroglen fell with him at the Avondalo Autumn Meeting, is still in a bad way as the result of the fall, and it will be a long time before he will be able to ride again. Humnos carried 7st 121b, and won the Third Division Handicap, in which, he was the outsider of the field. Humnos is a brother to liyginas, who Won the Kaitoke Hack Hurdles at Wanganui last week. The Wanganui Meeting exacted a severe toll on the list of jumpers, and m addition to Slowcoach, Manhattan, and Munition, who were shot at once, it has since boon found necessary to dispatch Bon Rove and Play Off. Bon Reve was bred at Yaldhurst, and won both tho New Zealand Derby and Great Northern Derby for Messrs W. G. and G. L. Stead. Later he was sold to Mr H. Neagie, of Takapau, in whoso colours ho won several valuable jumping races, including the Great Northern Hurdles and July Steeplechase at Trentham. Of the three horses going from Riccarton, Rada (who is a half-sister to Sasanof) is sound,, but so far she has not shown, signs of being any good, while Arrowsmith and Kilrush have only recently, been patched up, and may go again at any minute. Gloaming is being hacked about. Ho is a coarse-coated horse, and is looking very rough. Twelve months ago, when he left for Sydney, he looked rough, but at the same time had done a lot of work, and was forward. This year he will not strip so well when first wen at Rand wick, but he will muscle up quickly, as his spell has not been .long one. R. W. King will not race Demonstrate and Lord'Ashlea at the Dunedin winter Meeting. F.
