PROTECTION FOR NEW ZEALAND.
TO THE BDITOB 0* "THE PRESS." , Sir, —Wonders will never cease, anil we now have Mr Frostick advocating Protection for New Zealand. Free trade veraus Fair trade has been decided long ago, with all the honours for Free trade. One item alone proves tKis, the bankers' clearings for 19W in London reicbins the enormous total of £21,197,512,C00. Can Mr Frostick point to any centre, either Now YorK, Paris, Berlin (nil in protectionist countries) that can approach it? As for bis figures on wages paid in certain industries in the Old Country, tbey prove nothing, as they are by no menna complete or exact. Previous to 1846, when the corn laws were repealed, the English people were in a state of semistarvation, and if Sir Frostick wants New Zealand to go back to Protection as our grandfathers knew it, then uou help New Zealand.—Youre. ctc.^^ Christchurch, May 26th.
