The only applicants for the Waitangi run, which has been thrown open for settlement, were Messrs McLaren Bros., of Dunedin, and a ballot was thus rendered -unnecessary. The applicants were examined in Dunedin, and their application was approved conditionally? by the Canterbury Land Board yesterday. The Waitangi Run has an area of 21,200 acres, and. the annual rental is £G67 10a, for a term of 14 years. It is all pastoral country, -pith flats more or less stony along the Waitakj river, the remainder being rougn, broken country, ranging from 800 ft to 63001t.
