PARISH MEETINGS.
GERALDINE,
Tho annual meeting-of parishioners, held in the Parish Hall, was well The Rev. H. Purchas p/esided. -After the pre sentation of the reports and balanceHsheet. which were deemed highly satisfactory, it was" explained'that the credit balance of £541 represented a reserve which had been built dp by the efforts of Mr F. Burns, the people's warden, to enable atipends and gene-, fal expenses to he. paid for in thb comm(? year without recourse to an overdralt. It was stated that meetings had bpen held at Woodbury, Otari, Peel Forest, and K&kahu, and at each a representative had) been suggested for election on the vestry, Spencer being nominated for Orari, Mr Macdonald for Orari. Mr J. M. H. Tnpp for Peel/Forest) and Tisi A. Bruce for Kakahu. The election was then proceeded with. Mr J. M. Barker* was appointed by the vicar as .his warden, and Mr F. Burns was reelected people's warden. Major Spencer, Messrs J. M. Tripp, Bruce, G. A. Macdonald, Stonyer, E. Hardc&stle, Sinclair Thonioon, T. Hughos, J. Scott, and G. H. Patrick 'were elected- members of the vestry, Mr C. ■ W. S. Cox auditor, and Messrs T. Hughes and G. A. Macdonald delegates to tho archdiaoonal oonference. * The vicar, then said that he wished to introduce ft diSwent method of raising funoo for church purposes,, and suggested that each should contribute eo much a week. A penny a week would yield about £IOO a yoax, i}nd a shilling a week, which could well be given by most' people, Would provide about £I2OO a year, and would enable them to give more support to the Melanesian and other missions. . They' could find out what amount each was prepared'to contribute, and appoint collectors. In the discussion that, followed the proposal was favoured, and, on_ the motion of Mr Hughee, was adopted. Replying to a question, the vicar said that under the new scheme the members of the Ladies' Guild might work making up clothes for the. or« phenags. The question of the war memorial was then considered, it being stated that the proposed lych gate would coet double the amount that had been promised. It was recommended that a stained glass window and tablet bo substituted for a lych gate.
