OBITUARY.
j • MR WILLIAM RODGERS. Mr W. "Rodgers, who dropped dead while returning to his home on Saturday, after witnessing the football matchbs at Lancaster Park, was a wellknown and much-respected resident of Walthafn, and a prominent figure in athletic circles. Though he had been ailing' far some little time, his death was quite unexpected. For many years he had teen m the employ of the Government as a bridge, inspector, and was about to retire on superafinuation. He .was a prominent member of the Hibernian Society for many years, having joined the juvenile t branch in Wellington, and he had. held practically all the offices in connexion with that Society. For the Christchurch St. Patrick's Athletic Sportß Association he .did invaluable work, and was one of \tTie founders of the Marist Old Boys' Association, by the mepibers of which he was held in the highest'esteem. He was a vice-president of the .Marißts Football Club, and a keen Rugby enthusiast. He leaves a widow, one son, and six daughters, to mourn their loss.
