A fire at Ultimo gutted the factories of the Standard Manufacturing Company and the Omar Knitting Company. The damage is estimated at £50,000. OUTBREAK IN MELBOURNE. (Received May Ist, 5.5 p.m.) ■ MELBOURNE, April 30. ■Fire destroyed a seven-storey building in the city occupied by the Edwards Tea Company and several other firms. The damage totals £20,000. . FIRE AT M.P.S RESIDENCE. (PBESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) , ' NAPIER, April 30. The summer residence of Mr J. Vigor Brown, M.P., was partly destroyed oy ■fire this morning. The billiard-room, containing hundreds of trophies, paintings. and souvenirs, was included in the portion destroyed. The residence is situated on the borders of the Inner Harbour, and was said to be one of- the finest homes of its kind in New Zealand. It was lately leased to his" Excellency the Governor-General, whose children resided thfere for several weekg. The insurances total £2738, all in the Phoenix Office.
