LAWN TENNIS.
CANTERBURY ASSOCIATION. The Management Committee of the Cup terbury Lawn Tennis Association met on Tuesday. Present—Mown W. N. Seay (pre. eidont), C. T. Aechm&n, Geo. L. Borry, P. B. Harman, F. J. Murray, A. E. Steers, E. J. Taylor, L. J. Taylor, and B. Browninf. Tho quarterly report of the Maaagemsat Coawittee of tho New Zealand Lawn Ttcnia Association was reoeived. Mr ffm. Goss, as captain of the Onto bury team that played South Canterbury at Timaru, and Otago at Dunodin, submitted * his report, which was reoeived. It was decided to oonvey to the Otago Association, and tho Ximaru Club, the Aseociatiou'a ap* preciation of tho hospitality extended to the members of the team.. The secretary reported on the inter-pro-vincial matches played in Chriitohuich awin? the season. A letter was read from the New Zealand Association, notifying that the regulation! to govern the competition for the Anthony Wilding Memorial Challenge Ghield would soon be available. Correspondence waa read from Messrs G. tfore and P. P. Wilson, the Auociation'a . delegates on the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association, and also from the Auckland Lawn Tennis Association, with reference to Waikato's application for direct affiliation. A lengthy discussion ensued rcgardinfftha action of Mr Wilson In supporting waikato's application, after having been adrisod that the Canterbury Association »» opposed to it. On the motion of Mr 0. T. Aechman, seconded |by Mr E. J. Taylor, it w*» resolved : "That Mr Wilson be written to, expressing the Association'* regrat that, after receiving definite information so to Canterbury's views, ho should have thought fit to support the application." Mr Maurice E. Denniston, chairman of the executive of the Now Zealand A«toci*lion, wrote, notifying tho resignation of Mr IL M. Gore as. president of the Aasoeiation. Several miombers mado appreciative reference to the work done by Mr Gore during the years that he had occupied tho. position of president, and it waa reaolved that tha secretary write expressing the Awocintion ■ appreciation of his seijrices to lawu lennia in New Zealand. Tho Now Zealand Lawn Tennin Anou* tion wroto, notifying that the Now Zoalijiia Ohampionehips woiud be held in Onrtstchurch this year, at Christina* time, subject to satisfactory arrangements raaao. The leading players from Wellington, Otago, and South Canterbury would bo taking part. It was decided that all the men's events m commenced at 9 o'clock on Saturday tan-nine at the Linwood courts, and all the ladtar events at Avonside at fhe Kmc time, and that in the afternoon the second gr»d# matches for both ladies and men b« cirri*l on at Linwood'. The committee dedded that, in con*«qusnc« of the Easter tournament, the next found of the inter-club B grade competition »houid 1m - postponed until April 2nd.-
