WAIKARI POST OFFICE.

10 THE EDITOR OF "THE FBESS."> Sir, —la reply to the letter in your rmtier of February 3rd, concerning tb-* proposed "Waikari Post Office, I must say that I feel deeply indebted to "Shamrock" for the compliment he has paid me. As a man who has just taken an interest in public affairs, I feel honoured to think that there are people in the district who rely upon my influence in the matter of erecting post offices, etc., especially so owinp to the. fact that arrangements regarding the building in question have been finally decided. That is to say, that arrangements have been made by the Department to make, the present office <lo until the Government of this country is on a tetter financial footing. As a newly-elected member of the Council, I agree with "Shamrock" that I am taking an interest in the roads of tha district, not forgetting the "Waikari flat roads.'' which, if not soon attended to. will give the ratepayers more trouble than the post otßee is likely to give, with all respect to the hon. member for Public Works and PosUnastcr-General. I am agreed I have v.o apology to offjer for not being present at his reception at AVaiknri. much as I would like to hare been there, but owing to the fact that T .was on that day engaged in work, of my own harvesting. T. have reason to believe that "Shamrock" was aware of the above facts, but was not above taking the first opportunity of putting in a hit below the belt. AVith regard to the comment concerning the progressive qualities of the old Council, I have no reason to make comments or find fault with that body.— Yours, etc., AV. EARL.
