ASHBURTON A. AND P. ASSOCIATION.
A meeting' of the general committee of the Aahburton A. and i J . Association was lield on Saturday afternoon, Mr A. Horsey prosiding over a large attendance. Betoio commencing the ordinary business tile chairman referred with regret to the itGutli of Mr Joshua Tucker, who was president of the Association for one term, and its treasurer for many years. law men, suid the speaker, had dono ao much good work a.B the late Mr Tucker, who was in a large measure responsible for the rearrangement and improvement of the cattle yards and eheip pens, the erection of tho grand stand and produce ahed, and who wa» sololy responsible for tho splendid water supply they now had on '-he show grounds. Eulogistic reference to tho lii to Mi Tuoker's fine qualities, and to his invaluable work for the Association and for the district generally were made by Messrs W. Moses, j. M. Hampton, "VV. G. Gallagher, and J. B. Christian, after which the chairman moved—''Thai the meeting place on record tho Association's high appreciation of the long and faithful services rendered by the late Mr Tucker, and that a letter of condolence b« cent to . tho relatives and friends." The motion was carried in silence, the members standing. The ohairman extended a hearty welcome to Mr J. Brown, who had recently recovered from a serious illness. ( A letter vafl read from Mr J. Studholme, Coldstream, etating that ho was about to leave on a visit to England, and asking for leave of absence till his return. Mr Studholme also expressed regret at not bsing able tH be present at tli; meeting to bear testimony to the long ond valuable service# to the Association of the late Mr Tucker* Leave of absence, as aeked, was granted. Letters were received from. Sir George Clifford ond from tho secretary of tho .Canterbury A. and I J . Association to tho effect that the dates oi tho Christchurch Bam Fair could not be altered this yoar from March ]Bth and 19th, ■and expressing regret that theso daW clashed with tho Aflhburton Show. U'he- Prime Minister wrote stating that tho representations of the Association contained in a resolution ndvocnting tho appointment of a Dominion Produce Commiseionor in Kngland would' receive careful consideration. p _ The serious charge made against Xsw Zealand grain merchants in the "Agricultural (iazctto" of New South Wales was referred to in a letter received, from the Hon. W. TVTosworthv, Minister of Agriculture, who stated that the. matter was being enquired into by the Departmar.t oi Agriculture. The use of the Show Grounds was granted free of charpS to the sports carnival, to bo hold in April next. Mr William Anderson no'« forwarding a iruinea as a sptecial prize at the Autumn Mr S. J. Irwin was elected & member of the Association. Mr 6. Iteid was elected treasurer of the Association, in (succession to the late Mr Tucker.
