OBITUARY.

MR, J. FRAZER. Deep regret wa6 expressed inßangiora and North Canterbury business circles on Thursday when it became known that Mr John Frazer, of Victoria street, Rangiora, had passed away, the result of a paralytic stroke. f The deceased gentleman came to .New Zealand in 1!>02 by tho s.s, Gothic, and, with the exception of a few months, had resided in Rangiora ever since. He was born . at Drumaarn, County Tyronne, Ireland, in June, 1860, and was the second son of tho late Mr Joseph of that town. Prior to coming to r ew Zealand, Mr Frazer was in business at Belfast, Ireland, as a merchant dealing in groceries, wines, and spirits. On his arrival in Rangiora he purchased property in Victoria street from the late Mr James Young, upon which stood an aerated water factory. /Mr Frazerjias since conducted this business on his own behalf. Four brothers and five sisters survive him. Mr Frazer also leaves a widow, two sons and five daughters. The Rev. Henry Frazer; of Latherland, Liverpool, is ono of the surviving brothers, and another, Mr Joseph Frazer, is. principal of Lambag School, Lisbnffi, Belfast. Mr Frazers eldest sister is matron of the Old Swan Hospital, Liverpool, one of the largest hospitals in the United Kingdom. Two brothers and three sisters are resident in Ireland. The deceased gentleman, although widely known in business circles, did not take- any part in public life. He was a member of the Ashley Lodge, No. 23 (Masonic). The funeral takes place at the Anglican Cemetery at 2,30 p.m. to-day. MR b!~THROP. The flag at the City Council Chambers was at half-mast yesterday owing to the death of Mr B. Throp, a onetime officer of tho municipality % The late Mr Throp was several years sanitary inspector for the Sydenham Borough Council, and, after the amalgamation of that borough with Christchurch, he continued in the same position under the City Council. Mr Throp retired from the City Council staff two or three years ago. He Was a keen howler and a prominent member of the Sydenham Bowling Club.
