THE PRICE OF BOOTS.
TO THE EDITOR OF "THE PRESS." iSir,—l Was particularly interested in perusing your account of the proceedings of the Conference of Boot Manufacturers.," and more parlSoularly in the remarks made in the matter of the cost, of the New Zealand-made boot. Mr C. M. Ollivier stated that the New Zealand-made boot could be purchased at "half the price of the English article." At the end of December I needed a pair of boots ; and visited a local shon of good standing, and bought a pair of New Zealand-made boots, and paid for them £3 12s (3d. Now, if that, Sir, is half the price of the English boot, then the latter boot costs £7 5s per pair to the public. This, I think, cannot bo correct, and as a buyer of local boots I would like to havo this apparent anomaly explained.—Yours, etc., WELL SHOD. February 4th.
