The Department, the report continued, has forwarded a copy of regulations for tha a-otxuntment of itinerant teachers to give instruction in isolated districts, iin important stipulation beinjr *hsit no appointment should be made until suitable accommodation in'.,the locality had been guaranteed. Th? Department had written asking the Boavl to sdininisteT the new regulations for the- transfer of teachers in a reasonable manner, so as not to inflict undue hardship on the teachers. It had not been found necessary to take anv action, the Sensor Inspector being- satisfied that the tfadisra holding positions which had risen in grade were competent. A letter had been received from Mr J. A. i'lesher asking the Board to awar.l an additional "Cowie" scholarship this year. It had been aereed to comply with the request and to bring under (he Trustee's notice the caso of one. o: the candidates who had qualified, but in 7*gsrd to whom there wm 6ome doubt as to w%ether the condition* of the .mist were. met. It had been agreed that the. appointment of a, permanent assistant mistress" to E-lriiwcod and Linwood be, held over until Mi© end of the quarter owing; to ft decreasa in the average attendance. The report was adopted. •The Buildings Committee reported that the Department had adviasd that the question of rebuilding , the Kaikoura, Suburban • acliool jrmst be deferred for the m present. The Geraldine. committee had asked what assistance the Board could grant -towards the furnishing of a hostel for tho .secondary pupils. It ,\had been resolved to strongly support" any application 16 the Department for a subsidy. The New Brighton Committee's application that temporary provision be made for overcrowding at -the school had been - referred to th«- Senior Inspector'and Architect for report. The report was adopted.
