At the inquest on the victims jn the Hopkins River disaster, the Coroner found Edward Geary, the launch owner,' guilty of culpable negligent® m navigating • the boat, and not taking the necessary steps to flecur© tno safety of the passengers. He committed him for trial on a charge of feloniously killing. ("Eleven jjersons were drowned in the Hopkins River at Warrnambool on January 9th, by reawra of the sudden foundering of bjx 80ft motor boat, m which they and a large party were travelling. Ths majority of the passengers managed to scramble ashore.]
