RUSSIA & JAPAN.

CONFLICT LIKELY. TRO.OPS ASSEMBLING. (By Cable—Press Association—Copyright.) (Australian and N.Z. Cable. Association.) WASHINGTON, February 2. Advices from Japan indicate that relations between the Vladivostok Government and Japan are more strained, with a danger of hostilities between the Russians and Japanese. It is said that Japan intends to postpone consideration of a resumption of trade with Russia, or a withdrawal of the Japanese troops from Siberia until the Russians accept the Japanese demands and furnish guarantees ensuring the adequate protection of Japanese interests. A concentration of Russian regular troops is occurring in Khabarovsk, while the Japanese are reported to be throwing up defences at Nikolayevsli.
