Mr W. O. Walker, stipendiary magistrate at Hokitika, is at present visiting Christchurch. An Auckland telegram states that Mr T. Harle Giles has been reappointed Conciliation Commissioner for the fifth tenp of three,years. A WellingtoA telegram states that the reappointment of the Hon ; John Barr as a memlicr of the Legislative Council was gazetted yesterday. At Wednesday's meeting of the Repatriation Board, tho resignations of Messrs I'. Davidson, F. T. Eldridge, and J.* A. Clarke wore received with regret, *and it was decided to place on record tho Board's high appreciation of their valuable' services in t'ho interests of repatriation. The esecutivo of the Canterbury branch of the Royal Colonial Institute entertained tho president, Mr fc?. G. Raymond, K.C., and the corresponding secretary, Mr B. Seth-Smith, at dinner on Wednesday evening. Tho Hon.. W. H. Triggs, M.L.C., presided, proposed the haitli of Mr Raymond, and welcomed him back to Clu istehurch after liis visit to the Mother Country. Mr Raymond, in his reply, gave a very iuterfstinjj ao/our.l of t'ao work of the Institute in England, and of the discussions which were taking' place regarding the new ttatus of tho Dominions and other important Imperial questions. Mr Georgo Jameson proposed the health of Mr Seth-Siuit ! a, who is leaving shortly for_ England, and wished him a safe ana pleasant journey. Other toasts wero spoken to bv Messrs Norton Francis, H. J. Cottcrill, J. DAcland, and J. H. Rhodes (hon. secretary to tJhe Canterbury branch of tho Institute).
