COUNTY COUNCILS.
SPRINGS. Springs Count? Council met at Springston on Thursday. Present—Crs. A. Thompson (chairman). "C. AYolfc, J. S. Simpson, E. Yurr, J. SfaJk»r. and J. H. "Williams. ilr J. tV. Kime. late chairman of the Council, wrote thanking tie Council for its resolution of t.rrpreciation of his services. Mr G. Henderson complained of the un6atisfactory condition of the flood-gato at the end of Ma nuke's read, and ivskjd that repainj be effected before winter. Mr J. M. Barker, Grccnpark, asked that the road to his place be siringied. It was decided to fill up any ruts, bait to inform Mn Barker that 'he Council had no funds at present- to thinglo' the roaO. The chairman intimated thr,t he intended to accompany the party to Lake Coleridge on Saturday. The clerk would go with him.
Tho secretary of the Selwyn Plantations Board -mote that the Council's application for an area of three acres on reserve- 175S for a shingle pit would bo considered when the annual inspection of reserves wa6 being made.
Messrs Triggs and Trenton's tender for the supply of dog collars at Is 2d for collar au\l plate, was accepted. The Council having deeidixl "not to delegate its pevera under the new Health Act tts the Department, . the District H°a"'th Officer drew attention to certain claws in the. Act, and asked to be informed of the uc.ni? -.md qualifications oi the Council's sanitary inspector." It wtvs decided to reply that the County Cl°rk was the Council's insp<"ctor. The clerk to the* Paparua County Council wrote that this Council would consider the whole o.ueetion of water-races and charges at its next meeting.
It was agreed that a. deputation shoivH wait upon Paparua Council to discuss watermen matters.
Tho engineer's report was considered and adopted. It was reported that the. improvements authorised to be made to th>> etone-breaker plant were completed, and that the output of the machine lird greatly increased. A trial had proved entirely satisfactory. A proposal was made that Ihe dog registration fees should be raised, but it was decided to ascertain whether this cou'M legally be dono before fixing the charge?. The. clerk reported that the rates outstanding totalled about £9OO. TV ten per cent, penalty would ho imposed nfLor 31st inst.
