CHRISTMAS SERVICES.
« — Large congregations attended the special Christmas Forvkes ct tho Rugby street Methodist Church. Th© preachers wire (lie B*t. O.- H. Laws (principal of th« Methodist Theological College, Auckland), who conducted the morning service, nnd the Rav. A. C. Lawry, general secretary of tlio Methodist Gentenary movement, who preachc-l in th-a evening. At night the church was crowded, ami selections from "Tlio Messiah" wore given by a strong choir. A brief carol Rorvico followed, and the "Hallelujah" chorus closed au impressrvo service. The, soloists were Mesdamea Parker and Sta-llard, and •Messrs E. Harrison, E. Edgar, and Percy .Bedwoil. Mr W. Simpson conducted th« choir, and Misa Eleanor Smith was organist, Christmas services wore Ireuvl at St. Petri's Presbyterian Church, Ferry road, yesterday. The church was well filled at tho. morning f-ervice, when tho Rw. W. Tanner occupiod the pulpit, and made a special address to the 'children. Tho choir, under Mr W. E. Bennett, sang the antbein, ".Seo in Yonder Manger Low." Miss Li Key gave ©xcslk'nt interpretation of tho eolo, ""He Shall Feed His Flocks Like a Shepherd," oi'tar which tho servico dosed with the Benedioitioii. At tli® evening 6ervioo tho_ Rex'. W. Tanner agoin preached. Tho choir, under Mr TV'. E. Bennett, sang the anthem, ""Hark! What Mean Those Holy Voices?" and Miss N". Turner sang 1 "There Were Shepherds Abiding in the Field)?." |
