: TENNIS. The Te Whak-a Tennis Club played a Combined 1 Doubles Tournament on Saturday afternoon. Twelve couples competed, and the final, between. Miss Harris, and Shadbolt versus Miss Owens and Pilcaithl", resulted in a win for tho former pair. THE PICTURES. "Tho Valley of the Giants," starring Wallace Reid. will ho repeated at tho HarTjour Lights Pictures to-night, together with a Traveloguo and a Magazine. To-morrow "The Inn of tho Blue Moon," featuring Dong Kenyan, will he screened. The supports will ha Episode .Seven of "The Gi*?at :: n.mble," and a comedy entitled "A Little Bet." MAGISTRATE'S COURT. At the- Magistrate's Coutl on Saturday, before Messrs W. T. Lester and V, G. Norton, J.P.'s, Henry McCormack and Harry Roberts, for travelling on the Wahine from Wellington to Lyttelton without first having paid their fares, were each fined £1. EIRE ON WHARF. About 11.15 yesterday morning a fvro broke out in. a tool box oil No. 4 wharf. Tho box, which was the property of tho J.Railway De-. ■pp.rtment, contained straw, and the flames quickly spread to a truck standing alongside, containing four tons of sharps. Tho alarm was firs.t Bounded on the Maori's eiron, and then on the Brig-ado boll. An active party from tho Kokiri, which v.aa lying at the wharf, under the direction cf the chief officer, soon had a small lead of water on, and kept the fir© in check until the arrival of tlio Brigade, who. had water on within two minutes of the alarm being given. The total damage was tho loss of tho tool box and x contents, including two small trolleys and a couple of bales of straw; the loss of tho tarpaulin and about half tho contents of the truck. MILITARY FUNERAL. Ore of the largest military funerals which has been held in Lyttelton took place, yes-, tcrday afternoon, when the remains of Private He-nry John Sales, lato of tho Fifth Reinforcements, were, laid to Tost in the Church of England Cemetery. The Rev. J. R.' Howland conducted the sep'loe at St. Matthew's Church, and was assisted #t. the graveside by tho Rev. F. L. Frost, lato chaplain N.Z.E.F., Tho beaTers • were Sergt. Radcmovitch, S.S.M. J. Gallavin, Sergt.Major Crocker, Drummer C. S. Cole, Driver J Harkess, and Private. W. H. ±iarkess. The firing party was supplied by No. 4 Company, N.ZtG.A.. under Sergt. Woanie. ■ Sixty returned soldiers attended in uniform, and No. 11 Company Cadets paraded 50 strong, under Lieut Anderson. The Lyttelton Marine Band played ''Tho Garland of Flowera" las the cortege left the. residence and tho church. A large number of friends and rcoresentatrves of different organisations in Lyttelton were present, and there wero many beautiful floral offerings..At .the conclusion of tho service the customary thrco volleys were fired ovc-r the grave, and Sergt.-Trumpeter J.
