There were somo jocular references at the Wellington College prize-giving on "Wednesday to Auckland- Wellington controversies. First Mr J. P. Firth, the retiring headmaster, remarked that Mr Massev had feaid "hoar! hear! when it was slated that Mr Firth would not leave Wellington. "I supposo he was glad to hear I was not going to Auckland." When Mr Massey's turn to speak came ho declined to admit that Mr Firth belonged to Wellington altogether. "I know perfectly well that - if I were to suggest that lift'should leavo Wellington and go to Auckland there are people who would say: 'Another injustice to Wellington.' " As to which was his own city, the Prime Minister told a story of when ho was at the Auckland-Wellington football match. Ho left at half-time, .when it appeared that Auckland would he very badly beaten, and as ho went, a man in tho crowd called out: "Never mind, Bill; you belong to Wellington now." Seriously, he said, any town in New Zealand would be glad to have Mr Firth. He would give him a hearty welcome .to Frankton* for example.
