• t STATEMENT BY MR MASSEY. (PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON, December 17. "Wo have not go£ all tliat we asked for, but, taking everything into consideration, there is little reason for complaint or dissatisfaction," Baid the Prime Minister, when questioned as to the progress made with floating the £'6.000,000 loan. "A very large proportion of the money which has come to hand is from small investors, who are evidently satisfied with the country's security and with the rate of interest. Voluntary investments will be received until the end of the year, after which, af the amount required is not reached, it will bo necessary to bring the compulsory section of the Act into operation." (SPECIAL TO "THE PRESS.") WELLINGTON, December 17. ■ The Minister of Finance (Mr Massey) stated this evening that he was not rea'dv yet to make an announcement as to tho amount of"money contributed to the soldiers' set£)emt?nt loan. T\ *£">7 was still reaching the Treasury, and oasb experience indicated that subscriptions would continue to como along in future weeks. If the application of the compulsory provisions of the Act became necessary in orer to produce tho full amount required for repatriation of the soldiers, the steps would taken after the holidays. Mr Massev indicated that lie was By no means alarmed by the fact that the whole six 7nillions had not been subscribed within tho period allowed., Ho realised'that many people, whilo willing to do their duty in regard to the lopn, were having some temporary difficulty owing to the tightness of the money market. _ He did not doubt that tho frreat majority of the people who were liable to subscribe to the loan would do so without waiting for compulsion.
