The schooner Inca is in distress, and is being towed to Sydney by the Cosmos. The captain and crow took to a lifeboat on Monday, and 'have not since .been heard of. The Naval authorities advise that they have received a wireless message from the steamer West Holbrook stating that she had rescued the mate, nine members of the crew, and the caDtain s wifo and baby from tlio Inca's lifeboat and, _as ihey are all Americans, she was taking them to San Francisco. It appears that the captain remained on board the Inca. TWO MEN ON BOARD. (PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) "WELLINGTON, December 16. The Marine Department has received word from Melbourne that the steamer Cosmos ha 3 picked up the dismasted schooner Inca, and is returning with her in tow. There were only two hands on board, as tho remainder of the crew and the captain's wifo left the vessel in the lifeboat on Monday. The master of the Cosmos also reports passing a submerged wreck just above the water, apparently a fore-and-aft schooneT. It is very dangerous to navigation. The submerged vessel is in latitude 47deg o7min south, longitude 154.30 cast. (SPECIAL TO "THE PRESS.") DUNEDIN, December 16. The Inca is an American five-masted schooner of 901 tons gross register, and was bound from Eureka to Sydney with a cargo of lumber. The vessel has been a frequent visitor to Australian ports, and was at Auckland some years- ago. She was evidently seriously buffetedby the recent heavy storms off the New South Wales coast. . The Cosmos is owned by the Union Company, and left Sydney on Tuesday afternoon for Timaru and Dunedin.
