ASIATIC IMMIGRATION.
RESTRICTION PROEOSED. (By Cable—Press Association—Copyright.) (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) • NEW YORK, December 14 It is stated that the comment of Mr Sheldon (Australian Commissioner in the United States), expressing sj'mpathy with Senator Lodge's suggestion for cooperation in restricting Asiatic immigration, has made a pleasing impression ■on the Senate,. and it would cause no surprise if Mr W. G. Harding (Presii dent-elect) found that some of the most ardent opponents of the League of Nations, or any association of nations, would look differently upon an arrangement with tho British Dominions to protect their common interests. [An,earlier measagjo said: —The Australian. Press Association interviewed Senator Lodge, who said: "My statement- concerning the co-operation of I Canada, Australia and New- Zealand with the United States' regarding Asiatic immigration was merely a general statement of policy which I favour, tho importance of which I do not think* can be over-estimated. I believo such co-operation may be obtained, but have not yet considered or attein; ';ed to work out the details. The question is one which, I hope, will engage the attention of the incoming Congress and the new Administration. I am not prepared, atthis time, to go any further into details of this very important subject. 5 ' , Mr, Sheldon (Australian Commissioner in the United States), commenting on the interview, said: "I lenrn "tins with pleasure. It will no doubt give satisfaction throughout the British Empire, and the more of these understandings with the United States on this and other matters, the better Dleased will the, inembers of the Empire be."]
