The fact that the teachings of such writers as Karl Marx were responsible, in a great measure, for the absence of artisans aB a claßs from the church congregations was stressed by Rov. J. Barnabv in an address at a home mission rally of the Presbyterian Church in Melbourne Town Hall last week (says the "Melbourne Age")- He said that a "cursed class consciousness ' had been introduced from older countries, and it was doing its deadly work in Australia. It was particularly noticeable in the near suburbs, but steps had been taken, to combat it. Luncbeon-hour services were held in the industrial suburbs, and as a result large numbers of men had been made acquainted with the work of the church. The home mission was also, in conjunction with the Salvation Army, the Young "Women's Christian Association, and other denominations, working on behalf of the girls of Melbourne in the industrial centres.
