KUSUIiT- OF BALLOT. At tho meeting "of tho North Caivtortmry Acclimatisation Society last night, Mr K. M. .(.'affin roported. or. behalf of tho Deer Commit :«c, that 59 spplkations for licenses to shoot in the Eakain district had been received, and us tJie:e were only 17 blocks a ballot was taken, and tho following applicants wcro successful in fociiring blocks as stated below:—Frank Fanning, bloats 13 nnd 14, F. G. Collonson 1, M. S. Kusmll 10 and 11. H. J. Morrieon 15 and 10. G. Perard 12. J. Mr.reheson 17. P. H. Jo'uifon 3 and 9, P. G. Allan 10 and 11. F. Cooper 13 nnd 14, E. D. .Thomas IS nnd 16, Percy Eiworihv 8 and 9, L-. L. Pratt a nnd 6. W. G. Gerard 5 and G. F. Fanning 3, 1. F. Xorthcoto 7. J. Pitclr.-r 4. For the light to shoot, in tho Pointer river district eight applications had b.vn received (or the fonr blocks available, and tlis following drew block".-—E. O. Hnrr:s-n, A. R. Turnbull, Sir 11. Hcaton lUiodes, Coa. Sleeraan. Th* Doer Committee recommence i th:;* shooting for meat should bo absolutely prohibited. Ths reason for this was that in tho past several stalker.* m tho South had been permit tod to shoot for 1, and they preferred to take young- stags. The deer herds in Canterbury district would not stand that. It was expected that a.out £130 in revenue would Iμ derived f'om d?or stalking licenses. Mr Caffin added that, if any "of those, who had drawn blocks droppod out before tho season opened, a b.iL-it would be taken for tho blocks, thus inado vacant.
