4 INCREASED COST OF UPKEEP. (By Cable—Press Association —Copyright.) (Australian and K.Z. Cablo Association.) (Received December 14th, 7.25 p.m.) LONDON, December 13. Tho Army Supplementary Estimates show that a further £39,750,000 is required, of which sixteen millions aro for the Middle East, ten and a half for the increased Army, and its higher cost, and eighteen for charges arising out of the war. Mr Churchill explains that it hal been necessary, owing to the disturbo* state of the world, to continue recrujjj i'ng the Army to 236,000, instead.« 214,000. The disturbed conditions in Ireland entailed an additional expense of about £1,500,000. The most'important of the late war charges is the Indian Government's claim for ten millions on the adjustment of accounts for stores and fcupplies.
