By iho death of Mr George Tangre, who held the lease .of Heathfield Hall, Jtfmes "Watt's homo, the question of I preserving the relics in tho hall as a national memorial to the great invenror* has been brought to a head. The "Watt Centenary Committee are at preeent engnged in raising funds for a memorial to the" "father of the steam engine," , and although the future care of those relics at HeithfielUlall was not sp ,r ific- '■ allv included in their original objects j (Sir Taugye then being alive), tho com- j mitteo have now determined to use : every means to safeguard their future. In the '"garret" workshop at HentLiield Hall are to bo scon numerous examples of the inventor's work and genius ex- ' actly as he left them over 100 years ago. It is, therefore, proposed to make ar>-;mgements with the pre ent owner of the hall to secure these relics for the nation, avid as further' funds will be required for this purpose, the AVatt Committee are anxious to receive financial support from all those in sympathy J with this object.' . * * 1
