* - SPREADING IN AUCKLAND DISTRICT. (SPECIAL TO "THE PHES3.") AUCKLAND, December 10. Tho fire blight disease continues to make its appearance in orchards in different parts of the. Auckland province, "'and since the outbreak of the disease many valuable trec6 have been sacrificed by orchardists. Mr W. T. Goodwin, officer in charge of the blight-affected area, returned to Auckland to-day after visiting Tauranga, Paeroa, Tuakau, and Te Aroha. In the course of an interview he stated that commercial fruitgrowers at Tauranga fiad decided to root out all bightpear trees in their orchards, as they realised there -was practically no prospect of saving tljem. The "spread of the blight in this district this year was worse than it was last year. The infection was very bad in -some of the orchards at Paeroa. At Tuakau the disease, was practically confined to hawthorn hedges. An outbreak was reported at Itiverhead, and new cases had been located at Henderson.
