FIRES.
« OUTBREAK AT SUMNER. Shortly, after 12.30 this morning tho Sumner Fire Brigade was called out to a fire in Morton street, Sumner, whore a stone shed, belonging to Mr R. Radfield, baker arid an eight-roomed two- ' oried residence, owned and occupied by Mr F. xiua&e, were found to be in flames. The person who gave the alarm was awakened by a loud explosion, and on rushing out found that a motor-car belonging to Mr March, was iu flames. The car was standing next to the shed, which ignited and carried the flames to the residence. The car and shed were destroyed and four rooms of the house were gutted, but the Brigade saved tho rest of tho house. The house and furniture are insured, but the' amounts were not ascertainable this morning. (PEESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) TAIHAPEj November 6. Nich.olls's new brick motor garage became enveloped in flames rather suddenly at noon to-day. Frequent detonations blew out the windows and doors, and there was a loss of cars, tools, and accessories. Four cars were got out, but smoke rendered further salvage impossible. Tho brigade soon had the fire under control, but nob before the building was completely gutted and the whole roof destroyed. Ten, of the cars could not be got out of the burning building, and they all have tho appearance of being a total loss. The insurance on tho building was £1750, and on tihe stock £1000. Tho owner states) that tho loss will be more than double the amount of the insurance. j
